Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley is the richest person in the union cabinet, with assets of Rs 72.10 crore, according to information published on the website of the Prime Minister's Office on Monday. Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, on the other hand, claims to have assets valued at merely Rs 20.45 lakh.

That said, India's ministers aren't too badly off: 17 of the 22 people in the cabinet are crorepatis.  Here is a list of the richest ministers.

Big-ticket items: He and his wife Sangeeta own a house in Kailash Colony that they bought at Rs 1.09 crore in 1996. It is now worth Rs 24 crore.

2. Maneka Gandhi
Portfolio:

Total assets: Rs 37.68 crore.

Big-ticket items: Gandhi has five commercial properties, one residential property, and deposits in five bank accounts in her name, along with gold and silver worth Rs 1.47 crore.

3. Piyush Goyal

Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy.
Total assets:
Rs 31.67 crore.

Big-ticket items: His wife, Seema Goyal, has almost double the assets he has. They are valued at Rs 57.69 crore, with Rs 21.15 crore of those being loans and advances.

4. Najma Heptulla
