Change is a constant, as far Google is concerned. Within months of coming up with the idea of Alphabet Inc., a proposed conglomerate that will directly own several companies that were owned by or tied to Google, including Google itself,  it is keen to also change its visual identity with a new logo, unveiled on Tuesday. Even though the new logo looks more or less similar to the previous one at the first glance, the philosophy behind it, Google claims, is much more than just a font change.

With the new design, Google has made its appearance even more flatter in line with its material design interface which came with the latest version of Android to mobile devices around the world. Even then, it is change with continuity since the new logo looks quite similar to the previous one because its colour palette is the same, as it moves to a sans-serif font from the the serif font it earlier employed, which seems to be the trend among logos for major companies around the world.

Last year, when it tweaked the logo, Google didn’t go the whole hog and only made slight cosmetic changes to its logo, presumably because of the constraint of keeping the font style the same, but this time around the company has decided to make the shift driven primarily by the need to make its appearance smarter on smaller mobile devices.

Apart from the logo, the company has also introduced new animations which reveal how Google is working. One such change is in the Google mic element which animates to reveal if Google is listening, searching or performing other tasks.

Another massive change is in the ‘G’ icon on various Google apps such as Maps and Google Now which will now carry an uppercase 'G' for better visibility among multiple apps.

While the company has changed its logo many times over the last 17 years, the new logo received mixed reactions on social media. Twitter, where cynicism is always the default mode, reacted the only way it knows. We give you a selection:
