FILM Pristine Water + A Climate of Change at Habitat World
The organisers of CMS Vatavaran, an environment and wildlife film festival, will screen two English documentaries from 2013. Delhi filmmakers Niyati Sengar and Amaresh Kumar Singh’s Pristine Water explores the cultural and social significance of the polluted Yamuna river through the stories of the people who live on its banks. American director Jenny Sharman’s A Climate of Change looks at how people in pockets of Africa are using sustainable development and simple farming methods to address the effects of climate change. DANCE World Dance Day 2016 at India International Centre
Curated by Bharatanatyam dancer Geeta Chandran, this two-day event will focus on Indian classical dance forms. On Saturday, Chandran will be in conversation with veteran Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy. The talk will be followed by a Kuchipudi performance by Bhavana Reddy, the daughter of Kuchipudi duo Raja and Radha Reddy. On Sunday, Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher Kalanidhi Narayanan will be honoured in a talk by speakers such as scholar Kapila Vatsyayan and Bharatanatyam exponent Jamuna Krishnan, and Kathak dancer Sanjukta Sinha will perform a solo recital. The Ministry of Minority Affairs is hosting three exhibitions on the history, culture and impact of the Parsi community in India. An exhibition on Zoroastrianism at the National Museum will take visitors through the history of the community from the emergence of the religion in Iran to its journey to the west coast of India. “Painted Encounters: Parsi Traders and the Community” at the National Gallery of Modern Art is an exhibition of engravings, paintings and photographs that traces how Parsi ship builders and businessmen established trade with Canton in the nineteenth century. “No Parsi is an Island”, also at the NGMA, is a show of the works of 14 Parsi artists such as Pestonji Bomanji and Gieve Patel over the last 150 years.
