Stand-off continues, Chinese army refuses to withdraw from Chumar
The standoff between the Indian Army and their Chinese counterparts continued on Monday at the Chumar sector in eastern Ladakh, along the Line of Actual Control. At one of the eight spots in the Chumar sector, the Indian Army made a tactical retreat in the face of a heavy Chinese presence. Despite diplomatic interventions on Monday, both sides continue to hold their tactical positions against each other. The standoff has continued primarily because of China's unwillingness to stop its road-building exercise to the Line of Actual Control and India's refusal to demolish structures built in the area to shelter troops.

Gujarat map shows Arunachal and Kashmir as part of China
The Gujarat government courted controversy when three MoUs signed with China's Guandang province in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 17 bore a map showing Arunchal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir as disputed territories. The map depicted Aksai Chin as part of China. The opposition Congress, demanded an "apology" from the Centre for this apparent blunder.

BJP makes final offer to Shiv Sena
Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah spoke to Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray on Monday in an attempt to resolve their dispute over seat-sharing arrangements for the Maharashtra assembly elections on October 15. According to BJP General Secretary Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Shah reduced the party's initial demand for 135 seats to 130. “We won’t pull the plug." said Rudy. "We are hopeful that a solution will be found." Meanwhile Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that the alliance was in the intensive care unit, but was hopeful for a recovery.

India's Mars mission clears first hurdle, major test tomorrow
India's Mars Orbiter Mission entered the red planet's gravitational sphere of influence on Monday. However a bigger test awaits scientists from the Indian Space and Research Organisation on Wednesday, as it hopes to put the spacecraft in the red planet's orbit. Scientists fired up the MOM's engine briefly on Monday, "to achieve the necessary trajectory correction, by reducing the speed of the spacecraft by 2.18 metres per second." On Wednesday, however, scientists will be involved in the crucial procedure of firing up its engines to push the spacecraft along Mars' orbit.

Prime Minister Modi to secure wind, solar energy deals during US visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hoping to secure technology and investments for solar and wind energy projects that would generate 100,000 megawatts of power each, during his visit to the US at the end of this month, according to the Hindustan Times. This requirement for energy forms an important part of Modi's plan to provide continuous supply of power across India within five years.
