India’s Yuki Bhambri carried on his good form on the Sunshine tour, qualifying for the main draw of the Miami Open after another straight sets win. He will play World No. 75 Mirza Basic from Bosnia in the first round.

The ninth seed beat Sweden’s Elias Ymer, seeded 19th, 7-5 6-2 to make the main draw of a Masters 1000 event for the second consecutive time. He had reached the main draw at Indian Wells last week and made it to the third round, stunning ninth seed Lucas Pouille before going down to eventual quarter-finalist Sam Querrey.

Ymer, who is ranked 133 and coached by Robin Soderling, was not able to convert any of the three break points against the Indian and saved only one of four to make the second set easier. Bhambri remained strong on serve winning 70% of his first serve points and committing a double fault only once to his opponent’s five.

In the first round of qualifying, the world 107 had crushed Argentina’s Renzo Olivo 6-4, 6-1.

Bhambri’s first opponent in the main draw has not been in the best of form recently after storming his way to the Sofia Open trophy, stunning Stan Wawrinka in the process. He made it to the Miami main draw as a lucky loser.

In their previous meeting at the Sofia Open in 2016, the Indian had lost in straight sets. However, momentum is on his side now after a stunning three weeks on the Masters circuit.

If he wins the firts match, he will face eight seed Jack Sock in the second round.
