The president of the Federazione Cricket Italiana has suggested that cricket could be part of the 2024 Olympics if Rome wins the bid to the host the sporting event, according to ESPNCricinfo. "If Rome hosts the Olympics, cricket will be included," said Simone Gambino, the cricketing body's president. "We have had a firm commitment from the organising committee."

Cricket has only been played once at the Olympics, during the 1900 edition, where a side from Great Britain took on France in a one off fixture. However, the sport has been played at other multi-sport events, namely the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games.

Though there have been several suggestions to include cricket in the Olympics, this is the first concrete proposal to make it happen. Other cities in the running to host the 2024 Olympics are Paris, Los Angeles and Budapest.
