The Delhi Anti Corruption Bureau has asked former chief minister Sheila Dikshit to join the investigation into the Rs 400-crore water tanker scam, reported ANI. The agency chief MK Meena said the senior Congress leader will be questioned regarding her role in the case on August 26.

On June 21, the agency registered FIRs against Dikshit and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with case. They were registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, under sections on misuse of power, hatching of a criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust by a public servant.

Following the development, the Aam Aadmi Party chief had hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He had said he was glad Modi had accepted that "his fight is directly with" the Delhi chief minister.

In 2012, the Delhi Jal Board awarded tenders to private companies for leasing 385 stainless steel water tankers. Dikshit, who was the chief minister of the national capital then, was the chairperson of the board. The Kejriwal government had ordered a team to investigate the deal in June 2015. The inquiry committee found serious irregularities in the contract and filed its report in August. Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung forwarded the report to the ACB on June 17, along with a complaint filed by Opposition leader Vijender Gupta, accusing Kejriwal of deliberately ignoring the 125-page document for around 10 months.
