A hot-air balloon crashed in Texas, US, on Saturday killing all 16 people on board, reported The Guardian. The balloon reportedly caught fire in the air after hitting power transmission wires before plunging into a field.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Lynn Lunsford said the balloon caught fire in flight at about 7.40am local time before it crashed near Lockhart, around 48 km south of Austin. Local investigators are working with federal authorities, including the FBI, to ascertain the sequence of events. In a statement, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, as well as the Lockhart community.”
