A high-level inquiry was ordered by the Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday after the national flag fell off the post when Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was about to hoist it at an Independence Day event, reported PTI. Senior police officer L Mohanti told NDTV that a special director general will lead the investigation into the incident.

According to PTI, the incident took place when Mufti pulled the string attached to the post. After the flag dropped to the ground, she immediately held it up and gave the ceremonial salute. DGP Kumar said, “An inquiry was ordered immediately into the incident so as to fix the responsibility.” The chief minister has also ordered strict action against police officials responsible for the arrangements at the event in Srinagar, reported NDTV.
