Bengaluru largely regained its regular rhythm on Wednesday after curfew was lifted from areas under the jurisdiction of all 16 police stations in the city at 9 am, reported PTI. A senior police officer said vehicles were back on roads and shops and other establishments were open. However, a few schools and colleges remained shut, fearing violence. The state capital was hit by widespread protests after the Supreme Court ordered Karnataka to release water from the Cauvery river to Tamil Nadu on September 5.

Police Commissioner NS Megharikh told The Hindu that they have started investigations to identify the people who indulged in the violence. While the first civilian death in the stir was reported on Monday after the Bengaluru Police opened fire at a mob of violent protestors in the city, the second person died on Tuesday after he jumped from a three-storey building to escape being lathi-charged by the police.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to chair a meeting of Congress lawmakers to discuss the law and order situation. On Tuesday, he had said that Karnataka will obey the Supreme Court's order. The court had earlier reduced the amount of water Karnataka needed to release from 15,000 cusecs to 12,000 cusecs.
