Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India has never attacked any country nor coveted another nation's territory, NDTV reported. The prime minister's statement follows increasing hostilities between New Delhi and Islamabad, that observers say could intensify after the Uri attack and India's "surgical strikes" against its neighbouring country. He was addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra for Indian diaspora in New Delhi.

Modi said, "This country has never been hungry for land. We have never attacked any other country." The prime minister added that India has fought for other countries. He told the audience, of non-resident Indians and people of Indian-origin, that the country has not been "effective in telling the world" that the nation has sacrificed over 1.5 lakh lives for other countries during the two World Wars.
