The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday released a third list of its candidates for the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections. With 29 new names announced, the party now has 61 candidates contesting the state elections. The latest list includes four journalists, three doctors, a farmer and two matriculates, among others, NDTV reported.

The state convener of the party, Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi, said AAP will announce at least 100 names by the end of October. Asian games gold medalist wrestler and Padma Shri and Arjuna awardee Kartar Singh will contest the elections from Tarn Taran. The party’s spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khaira will contest from Bholath. Former Congress legislator Charanjit Singh Channi will contest from Nawanshahar and Punjab Dialogue Chairman and former journalist Kanwar Sandhu from Kharar.

The party slammed the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal government for misgovernance and corruption. AAP’s Punjab co-convener Jarnail Singh said the villagers around the border area were facing problems because the local administration was evacuating the region in the wake of the recent surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army. He said, "The state government had committed a food scam of Rs. 31,000 crore as it did not have enough food grain stock against money taken for procurement." Singh said a judicial enquiry should be ordered in the case.
