Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah on Wednesday visited Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at Chennai's Apollo Hospital, where she has been undergoing treatment for the last 21 days, The Hindu BusinessLine reported. Minister of State for Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan also accompanied them.

The BJP leaders' visit lasted for 20 minutes, after which they left the hospital without addressing mediapersons present outside the premises, according to the English daily. Jaitley, however, said on Twitter that he had visited the hospital and wished the chief minister a speedy recovery. BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan and other party leaders also visited the hospital.

Jayalalithaa's health has been a major concern for the state, as rumours circulate that her condition has deteriorated significantly. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, however, has maintained that her health has been improving. Apollo Hospital also said that Jayalalithaa was making gradual progress but needs requires a longer stay at the institute.

Mass prayer sessions seeking divine intervention for the chief minister's speedy recovery are being held across the state. Her illness comes as the state is embroiled in the Cauvery water-sharing dispute with Karnataka.
