The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday said that it would be a travesty of justice if the Central Bureau of Investigation did not investigate Prime Minister Narendra Modi over allegations of bribe taken from Sahara Birla. Dilip Pandey, the convenor of the Party’s Delhi unit told ANI: “See the irony, there is so much chaos in the country because of demonetisation and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the one who has done a scam of Rs 8 lakh crore.”

Pandey also accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of purchasing lands with black money to convert it into white. He said that while an FIR was filed against party leader Amanatullah Khan in connection with an alleged scam in the Waqf Board recruitment process on Friday, the administration was doing nothing about the bribery allegations against the prime minister. “When we entered politics, we knew that all powers will work against us and will trap us and put false blame on us. The members of the Aam Aadmi Party will not panic because of this…We will not stop working against corruption,” he said.

In October, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung had declared the reconstitution of the Delhi Waqf Board and the appointment of Khan as its chairman illegal and void ab initio. Khan had resigned as the chairman of the body in September, following allegations that he had “illegally appointed” a number of people to different posts in the board, including his friends and relatives.

In his resignation letter addressed to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Khan had said he had “run out of patience” for issuing clarifications for the appointments. The MLA had said,“False allegations are being levelled against me and my family to frame us. I want to be free from all the responsibilities given to me by the government, and therefore, I tender my resignation from all the posts.”

The Waqf board monitors matters related all Muslim properties in the Delhi-National Capital region that are used for religious or charitable purposes.

In September, Khan was arrested in connection with a sexual assault case filed by his sister-in-law in Delhi. In July, the Okhla MLA was arrested for threatening a woman.
