Popular TV news anchor Arnab Goswami is reportedly working on a new venture called “Republic”, The News Minute reported on Thursday. The website quoted the former TimesNow editor-in-chief as saying, “I seek the support of the people of India”, but said Goswami did not provide any other information about the project. All other details about it remain unclear, though there is speculation that it will be based out of Mumbai and funded by Indian investors.

Goswami announced his resignation from TimesNow on November 1. The channel, which comes under the Times Group that also includes The Times of India, was launched with Goswami at the helm in 2006 and quickly became one of the most highly rated English news channels on air. Goswami’s own show, the Newshour, dominated the prime-time slot among 24x7 English news channels. Goswami began his career with The Telegraph and later spent several years as an award-winning news anchor at NDTV, before leaving the channel to help launch TimesNow.
