The Delhi High Court on Thursday gave Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot 10 days to respond to a petition that seeks to remove him from the Cabinet because he has been disqualified as a legislator, PTI reported.

The court also asked the Centre and the Delhi Assembly speaker to respond to the plea, filed by three legislators of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Justice Rekha Palli, however, did not pass any order to restrain Gahlot from attending proceedings in the Assembly, though she said she was “prima facie...inclined” to do so. The Budget Session of the Delhi Assembly started on March 16, and will continue till March 28.

The court will hear the matter next on April 6.

Meanwhile, the court said it would announce its verdict in the office-of-profit case involving 20 Aam Aadmi Party MLAS on Friday. In January, the Election Commission recommended that the MLAs be disqualified as they had held offices of profit while being legislators. President Ram Nath Kovind approved the disqualification soon after. Gahlot is the only legislator among the 20 who is a minister.
