Television actor Siddharth Shukla was booked for rash driving after causing a road accident in Mumbai’s Oshiwara on Saturday evening. Shukla allegedly lost control of his BMW X5 sports utility vehicle, crashed into multiple cars and mounted a road divider, reported The Indian Express.

Confirming the accident, senior inspector Shailesh Pasalwar said, “One person has been injured and three cars damaged. We have taken his blood sample. Further investigation is underway.”

The 37-year-old actor was charged for rash driving (section 279 of the Indian Penal Code), endangering life or personal safety of others (section 336), and causing hurt by endangering personal safety (section 337). He was later released on bail.

Shashikant Bhandare, an inspector at Oshiwara police station, said they would be able to confirm if Shukla was driving under the influence of alcohol once the medical results come back, the Hindustan Times reported. “Till now, we have not found any evidence of drink driving,” he said. He added that Shukla has been cooperating with the police probe and did not flee from the scene.

Bhandare said the vehicle’s airbags did not deploy after impact and Shukla was fortunate to have not suffered serious injuries. “Locals rushed to the spot and took him out of the car after which we were called,” he said.

Shukla made his acting debut in 2008 and has acted in shows like Balika Vadhu, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, and Dil Se Dil Tak, and has hosted Season 6 of India’s Got Talent. He has also appeared in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
