The trailer for Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel begins with an explosion in which a woman in armour is thrown into a video store from the skies. “I know a renegade soldier when I see one, never occurred to me that one might come from above,” the voiceover of Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury booms as Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) gets up with a lost look on her face.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the film stars Larson as Carol Danvers alias Captain Marvel, a fighter pilot with a complicated past. The trailer includes glimpses of Danvers’s childhood and adolescence and her entry into the military unit Starforce.
Also starring Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace and Gemma Chan, the film is the 21st entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Captain Marvel will be released on March 8, 2019, to mark International Women’s Day.
