Libyan militants say they have captured Tripoli airport
Islamist militants from the Libyan city of Misrata claimed to have seized the Tripoli international airport on Saturday after several weeks of fighting with guerrillas from the north-western city of Zintan. The Zintan militias have held the airport since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. Libya's interim government has condemned the Misrata fighters as terrorists.

Sierra Leone makes it illegal to hide Ebola patients
Sierra Leone's parliament passed a law on Friday making it illegal to harbour Ebola patients. According to the new law, violators could face upto two years of imprisonment. Many families hesitate to seek medical care for affected people, fearing high fatality rates and the stigma associated with the Ebola virus. The World Health Organisation believes this practice had led to a gross underestimation of the scale of the epidemic.

Yemen government to resign in a month
The Yemeni govenrment on Saturday offered to resign within a month in a bid to end protests by the Shia Houthi movement . A draft proposal was put forward to the the Houthis, which offered to form a new goverment and set up an economic committee to review the fuel subsidies. In July, the Yemeni government decided to cut fuel subsidies to ease the burden on its budget deficit, which led to public unrest.

Qatar denies supporting Islamic State militants
Qatar's foreign minister Khaled al-Attiyah on Saturday condemned the brutality of the Islamic State in Iraq and denied allegations that his country was giving financial support to the militant group. The statement comes a day after the German government apologised for remarks by a minister accusing Qatar of funding IS militants. Attiyah said that while Qatar opposed Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, his country would never endorse the IS group's vision. He added that his government would continue to provide humanitarian aid to the Iraqi people.

Iceland issues volcano red alert
Iceland's Meteorological Office has raised the aviation alert to red after the Bardarbunga volcano erupted on Saturday. Airspace near the volcano has been closed due to possibility of "significant emission of ash into the atmosphere". The region has already been evacuated due to days of heightened seismic activity there.
