Security increased on fears for Dehi-Kabul flights
Security at airports around India was strengthened on Sunday after intelligence agencies warned of a possible hijacking of Delhi-Kabul flights by militants. Officials added that anti-hijacking measures had been instituted, especially at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the capital. In 1999, Indian Airlines flight IC 814, which was en route to Delhi from Kathmandu, was redirected by hijackers to Kandahar, controlled at the time by the Taliban.

Pakistan captures two fishing boats off Gujarat coast

Mamata’s nephew slapped at public meeting
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee was slapped in the face by a party worker at a public meeting in East Midnapore on Saturday. Images of the attack were repeatedly played by news channels, showing Abhishek Banerjee leaving in a huff. TMC spokesperson Derek O’Brien claimed that the incident was part of a plan to endanger the MP’s life. However, party insiders said it was a result of factionalism.

Modi to release coins commemorating JN Tata
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will honour the Tata Group’s founder Jamshetji Tata with commemorative coins for his 175th birth anniversary on March 3. The coins are set to be released at Modi’s residence in a small ceremony on Tuesday. The list of invitees is yet to be finalised. The Rs 5 and Rs 10 coins will depict Tata’s bust and have been valued at Rs 4,500 each. They were fabricated by the Kolkata mint of the Security Printing and Mining Corporation of India.

Kerry says Pak has reined in LeT, India outraged
Ahead of his visit to Gujarat on January 11, US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Sunday that Pakistan has managed to rein in the Lashkar-e-Taiba, a terrorist outfit. The statement sparked outrage in Delhi, which has been unable to get Islamabad to prosecute the leader of the organisation Hafeez Saeed for crimes committed in India. In fact, Saeed has held public rallies in Pakistan in 2014. After Gujarat, Kerry is set to lead the Strategic Dialogue in Islamabad later in the month.
