In the video, Kulbhushan Jadhav is seen to claim that he is currently an Indian Navy officer and is due to retire in 2022. India had earlier said that Jadhav was a former Indian naval officer, but has held that he has no links with the country's intelligence services.
"I was picked up by RAW in 2013, and ever since I have been directing various activities in Balochistan and Karachi on the behest of the intelligence agency," Jadhav is seen to say. The video comes two days after a Pakistani security official told Dawn that Kulbhushan Jadhav was imparting naval fighting training to separatists Balochistan. The report quoted the official saying that the training was part of a larger plan to attack ports in the country. The official has also accused Jadhav of transporting anti-state elements from Pakistan to New Delhi for training by RAW.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs responded by saying the government "categorically rejects allegations that this individual was involved in subversive activities in Pakistan at our behest". The ministry added, "The video has this individual making statements which have no basis in fact. That the individual claims to make the statements of his own free will not only challenges credulity but clearly indicates tutoring." India also reiterated its demand of being given consular access to "an Indian national under detention in a foreign country, as is the accepted international practice".
