There seems to be a deliberate introduction of ennui into the narrative structure which expands like fog and envelops the viewer. Symbols and allegories apart, the emphasis on the obvious (as in the case of Banerjee) or on clichéd tropes (as in the case of Johar) makes this effort a rather weak and meandering one.
