This is yet another article which emphasises how simple measures yield immense benefits and can even save lives. The dramatic increase in institutional deliveries over the time from 2005-16, is indeed phenomenal. But such a rise would have brought down the IMR, had there been greater awareness among the public too.How simple things like kangaroo care, immunisation protocol, hygiene, nourishment, frequent antenatal visits for check up, ORS,.etc many of which do not involve extraordinary cost too, would go a la long way in ensuring a drastic reduction in IMR is something that calls for better primary health education.Of course, socioeconomic factors play an important role but then there are many which are in one’s hand and it is here, a massive awareness throguh media in vernaculars such that the message reaches the grass root level can deliver better results perhaps with lesser expenditure.
