The massive fire that broke out in a four-storey building on Tuesday morning in Bhiwandi, Thane district, has been brought under control. All those trapped in Rahat Manzil building, located around 32 km from Mumbai, have been rescued, and there were no reports of casualties. The exact cause of the blaze is uncertain, but a short circuit is suspected to have triggered it, PTI reported.

The fire is believed to have started in a cloth godown on the first floor of the building. While the ground floor housed a powerloom, the remaining three floors were occupied by 72 families. Residents sought shelter on the terrace after the blaze broke out. Around 15 to 20 of them were moved to the top floor as a precautionary measure, when cooling operations were underway, tehsildar of Bhiwandi Vaishali Lambhate said.
