At least four people were injured after a lintel of a flyover under construction on National Highway 28 collapsed in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti on Saturday morning. Rescue efforts are on to save two people are trapped under debris, ANI reported.

Chief Minister Adityanath has instructed local authorities to clear the debris and ensure traffic is not halted on the highway.

Witnesses told NDTV that the iron beams supporting the flyover appeared to have sunk into the earth. The soil may have been loose since it has been raining in the area for past two week.

“[The] district administration has informed NHAI [National Highway Authority of India] and has asked them to look into the issue immediately and to take appropriate measures on priority,” District Magistrate Raj Shekhar said in a statement.

In May, 18 people died after a portion of an under-construction flyover collapsed in Varanasi city. The Uttar Pradesh Police said they had sent five warning letters about safety violations to the UP State Bridge Corporation.
