Disney attempts to strike a sombre note in its trailer for The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.

The live-action rendering of ETA Hoffmann’s 1816 novel The Nutcracker and the Mouse King and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker ballet has been directed by Lasse Hallström. The fantasy drama will be released in the United Kingdom on October 26, 2018, and on November 2, 2018, in the United States of America.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms features Mackenzie Foy as Clara, an adventurous girl who finds a key to a parallel universe with the help of a golden thread given to her by her grandfather Drosselmeyer (Morgan Freeman). Clara sets out to explore the magical universe, which is ridden by conflicts between gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice. Here, she meets a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight) and the Sugar Plum Fairy (Kiera Knightley), who assist her in the quest to defeat the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren) and restore order in the world. Although the trailer suggests that the film is wrapped in a familiar blend of magic and adventure, it also declares that the well-known legend has a dark side.
