Is this finally the end of Tiger Woods?

In a bleak admission, the 39-year old who has 79 PGA Tour victories to his credit, has said that he has “nothing to look forward to”, as he recovers from a back surgery.

Woods last won a major at the 2008 US Open and has struggled with form and injury in recent years. He participated in only seven tournaments in 2014 after undergoing surgery on a nerve on his back in March. He missed the cut in three out of the four golf majors in 2015 before going through additional surgery in September and October which has ruled him out of the game indefinitely.

Woods had no answer about his return, admitting that he, his surgeon or his physio had any idea about the timetable of his return. “Where’s the light at the end of the tunnel?” he asked rhetorically.

In a far cry from the years when he was one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, Woods also revealed that he spent most of his time playing video games, which he has got very good at in recent times.

If this is indeed the end though, it would be a sad ending for one of golf’s most celebrated superstars. A sparkling career took an abrupt turn in December 2009 when Tiger Woods admitted to infidelity. The resultant scandal affected him both professionally and personally – after his divorce, Woods’s form plummeted as he slid down the rankings.
