US President Donald Trump’s days in office have been sharply polarising, divided between allegations of fake news and of alternate facts. While he has an army of followers on twitter, several talk show hosts and Saturday Night Live have been eviscerating Trump’s time in office. Now, there’s an unlikely entrant to the protestors’ corner – Fox News.

The largely right-wing news channel has, on the whole, been sympathetic to Trump’s cause, especially before the elections. But after Trump’s unhinged press conference on Thursday, Fox News anchor Shepard Smith slammed the US President’s comments, singling out his campaigns ties to Russia.

“He keeps repeating ridiculous, throwaway lines that are not true at all and sort of avoiding this issue of Russia as if we’re some kind of fools for asking the question,” Smith said. “Your opposition was hacked and the Russians were responsible for it and your people were on the phone with Russia on the same day it was happening and we’re fools for asking the questions? No sir.”

Trump supporters on Twitter did not take too kindly to Smith’s comments and called for him to be fired, and hired by CNN.

Along with Breitbart, Fox News is one of the few outlets Trump finds trustworthy. Perhaps, that will change too.
