Mao Zedong, former chairman of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China, died on September 9, 1976. Thirty eight years after his death, tourists and Chinese admirers still flock to Beijing's Tiananmen Square to visit the Mao Mausoleum, where the Chinese leader's embalmed remains are preserved.

India established diplomatic relations with China in 1950. Ties soured during the Nehru administration with border disputes and differences over Tibet ultimately leading to the 1962 war. But just after Independence, Jawaharlal Nehru's "Hindi-Chini bhai-bhai" slogan found enthusiastic admirers on both sides of the border.
