Tamil Nadu: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister gets bail
The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa in a disproportionate assets case. The bail application, based on Jayalalithaa's poor health, has been extended up to December 18. Last month the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief was convicted by a local court in Bangalore to four years in jail and fined Rs 100 crore for amassing wealth through corrupt means. The apex court judgement arrived on the 43rd anniversary of AIADMK's founding.

Andhra Pradesh: State seeks help in restoration of telecommunication networks
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday ticked off private telecom companies for not coming to the state's aid after cyclone Hudhud severely damaged telecommunication networks in the northern Andhra coast. "Telecom companies should also have a social responsibility and cannot focus solely on profit-making," Naidu said. "Services would have been restored in a couple of days had they [telecom companies] responded and acted quickly."

West Bengal: Sack full of IEDs found in terror suspect's house
The National Investigation Agency on Thursday found a sack full of 40 improvised explosive devices in the house of a terror suspect linked to the October 2 bomb blast at Burdwan district. "The NIA officers are being assisted by the National Security Guard team in safe disposal of the devices, as the house is located in a thickly-populated area," said an official. The house is located very close to the building where a bomb blast took place on October 2, killing two alleged members of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh terror outfit.

Karnataka: State government receives presidential assent for land-grabbers bill
The Karnataka Land Grabbers’ (Prevention) Bill received President Pranab Mukherjee's assent on Thursday, after more than seven years in cold storage. The bill provides for setting up of fast-track courts to try cases in which government land has been encroached. According to Karnataka Law Minister TB Jayachandra, the bill was adopted by the state legislature in 2007. However, it was pending with the union government for seven years.

Gujarat: Honda to set up the world's largest scooter manufacturing plant
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, a Japanese-backed automobile giant, plans to invest Rs 1,100 crore in the next few months at its scooter manufacturing unit in Vithalapur, around 80 km from the commercial centre of Ahmedabad. On Thursday, company officials laid the foundation stone for the new plant, which is expected to start operations by the end of 2015. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 12 lakh units, making it the world's largest scooter manufacturing facility.
