Chief Minister of Bihar Jitan Ram Manjhi has recommended that Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi dismiss two ministers considered close to his predecessor, Nitish Kumar. The two ministers are Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lallan and PK Shahi. Manjhi said that the two minister’s activities were not in the best interests of the government and that they were in the forefront of efforts to oust him from the Chief Minister’s post in favour of Nitish Kumar. Supporters of the two leaders clashed in Patna on Friday ahead of a JD(U) meeting.
Maharashtra: 100 days too short to judge us, says Devendra Fadnavis
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday completed 100 days as the head of the state, but he said that people should give him more time before they made a judgement on the performance of his government. He took the opportunity to hit out at the Congress, claiming that it was under their 15-year rule that farmers had been forced to commit suicide, there had been an increase in crime against women and Dalits and the state had been pushed bankruptcy.
Telangana: Two more die of swine flu in Telangana
The Telangana government said that the H1N1 virus has claimed two more life in the state, taking the toll to 41. An official release stated that of 5,212 samples that were tested, 738 had been positive. The health department however claimed that the number of cases has been in decline over the last six days. Several states, including Gujarat, Goa, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, are grappling with the disease.
West Bengal: Kolkata becomes first city to offer free WiFi
Kolkata on Friday launched an initiative to become India's first fully WiFi-enable city. The service by Reliance Jio was inaugurated by Mamta Banerjee. The WiFi is currently available at Park Street and will soon be available in the Ghariahat-Gol Park area. The services for the whole city will be available by April. The services will initially be free of charge.
Jammu & Kashmir: Flood victims to receive compensation in bank accounts
The victims of the Jammu & Kashmir floods in September will receive their compensation packages directly in their bank accounts after getting a clearance from the National Disaster Management Authority. A total of 1,445 cases have been cleared by the NDMA so far for direct transfer.
