Jammu and Kashmir: PDP says Centre should have known about release
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday warned its alliance partner in the Jammu and Kashmir government of “consequences” for its decision to release separatist leader Masarat Alam from jail last eek. BJP officials said that party President Amit Shah had asked Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh to tell the PDP that the BJP would not sacrifice its ideology just to stay in power. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier criticised the state government for not consulting the Centre about Alam’s release. However, the PDP said that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh should have known about Alam’s release since the decision was taken when the state was under central rule.

Delhi: Yadav accuses AAP of forcing MLAs to sign papers against him
Aam Aadmi Party leader Yogendra Yadav on Tuesday accused the party of forcing its MLAs to sign papers against him and Prashant Bhushan. Asking the party to get its organisational Lokpal to investigate the allegations against them, Yadav said that the country would soon know the “whole truth”. Senior party leaders such as Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh had earlier alleged that he and Bhushan had worked to malign the party’s image during the Delhi assembly elections. Bhushan, meanwhile, said that he would continue to fight for accountability within the party. “We have not come to make another political party, which is just a machine of winning elections by any means”, he said.

Uttar Pradesh: DP Yadav sentenced to life imprisonment in Bhati murder case
Uttar Pradesh politician DP Yadav was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday for the murder of Mahendra Singh Bhati, a former MLA. Yadav and three others were sentenced by a special Central Bureau of Investigation court, which also imposed on them a fine of Rs 1 lakh each. Bhati, said to be Yadav’s mentor, was murdered in 1992. The case was transferred to Dehradun after doubts were expressed about the legitimacy of the trial being held in Uttar Pradesh. “We are happy with the law of our country which has not spared the guilty," said Bhati’s son Samir.

Meghalaya: Four policemen killed in militant ambush
Four policemen were killed on Tuesday in a militant ambush in the jungles of the South Garo Hills district in Meghalaya. The attack, which injured two other personnel, was carried out by a 30-man strong group allegedly belonging to the banned Garo National Liberation Army, according to a senior police officer. While Border Security Force troops were sent to the area to conduct search operations, the Indian Air Force helped to evacuate the injured policemen.

Maharashtra: Five hundred kilos of party drug seized in police raids
Over 500 kg of party drug meow-meow was seized by police in Maharashtra in two raids. A police constable from Mumbai was reported to have been arrested in the raids. The total value of the drugs seized was said to be Rs 50 crore in the international market. One raid was conducted in the Kanher village in Satara district. The second raid was conducted on a vehicle on the Mumbai-Pune highway. The police arrested the men driving the car, and seized 355 kg of the drug. The drug, also known as Mephedrone, had been banned across India in February.
