The army has arrested five insurgents of Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang), who were allegedly involved in an ambush of a military convoy in Manipur's Chandel district in June. The attack killed 18 armed forces personnel. "Five members of the ambush team have been caught and the search for the remaining killers is on. All the above apprehended are being handed over to National Investigation Agency for further investigation," an Army official was quoted as having said. After the ambush, special teams were tasked to investigate the incident and crucial evidences were found that helped in establishing the identity of the perpetrators.
Jammu and Kashmir: Government releases separatists 2 hours after detention
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led PDP-BJP government released separatist leaders two hours after detaining and placing them under house arrest on Thursday. This was done to prevent them from meeting Pakistan's national security advisor Sartaj Aziz in New Delhi on Sunday. A team of Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday morning barricaded the gates of the residence of moderate Hurriyat Conference chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooqat Nigeen and informed him that he was being placed under house arrest and released him after two hours. “Shame on Mufti Sayed for arresting on demand. He had no business following his masters’ orders & detaining the Hurriyat leaders like this… Serious question - just who is running J&K these days?” tweeted Omar Abdullah, former J&K chief.
Goa: High court refuses to stay Digambar Kamat’s bail
Goa’s former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat could not get a stay from the high court of Bombay against the order of the special court granting anticipatory bail in the Loius Berger bribery case. The court has adjourned the hearing on the government's application seeking cancellation of bail to next Thursday and also issued notices to Kamat. His lawyer has stated that the reply on crime branch's application will be filed by next Wednesday. In its application, the crime branch has pointed out that witnesses have recorded their statements before the magistrate and that they have stated that the accused was paid the bribe amount.
Tamil Nadu: CBI suspects A Raja of owning ‘benami’ properties
The Central Bureau of Investigation has found documents related to more than 200 immovable properties from 2G scam accused A Raja, his family members, relatives and close associates booked in the disproportionate assets case on Thursday. It suspects that there are a large number of 'benaami properties' in which former telecom minister had invested through people known to him. So far, the agency has established DA of Rs 27.92 crore, as listed in the First Information Report. "We suspect that illegal money was invested in companies floated by A Raja's family members and relatives and investments are shown through shell companies based in India and abroad," said a CBI officer.
West Bengal: Central funds not reaching State, says Mamata Banerjee
Accusing the Centre of not releasing funds for the projects it announces, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday threatened to launch an agitation in Delhi. “You make it the headline and people also become happy but a wrong message goes to the people. You do not write when the money does not come. To get even 20 paisa we have to struggle very hard,” she said. She further added that of the 55 schemes of the Centre, 39 schemes have been closed.
