Indrani Mukherjea, who co-founded the 9X media group along with her husband Peter Mukherjea, has allegedly confessed to the police that she, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai killed her daughter Sheena Bora by strangulating her in a car in Mumbai on April 24, 2012. The same day, they drove to Raigad where they set the body on fire using petrol. The Khar police stumbled on the murder when they arrested Mukherjea's driver Rai on August 21, acting on a tip-off. The Raigad police had found skeletal remains at the spot on May 23, 2012. "Inquiries with the local police at Raigad confirmed Rai's confession," said Mumbai Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria. "Indrani has confessed that Sheena was her daughter."
Odisha: Blast by Maoists kills 3 BSF jawans
Three BSF personnel and one civilian were killed on Wednesday morning in a landmine blast triggered by Maoists in Odisha’s Malkangiri district. Six other BSF men were severely injured in the attack and rushed to the Malkangiri district hospital. The Maoists triggered the landmine after the BSF team landed at a ghat after crossing Chitrakonda reservoir by a boat. Soon after the blast, Maoists ambushed the personnel and fired at them. A villager was also killed in the ambush.
Delhi: BJP attacks AAP for CNG inquiry
The Delhi BJP on Wednesday described as retrogressive the Aam Aadmi Party government's decision not to call off the inquiry into the so-called CNG fitness scam even though the Centre declared it illegal. The scam involved money for fitness tests on CNG-powered vehicles being siphoned off by a fake company. "It is absolutely against the letter and the spirit of the Constitution of India that a state government should dare the Central government to go to the court for implementation of constitutional authority's order," said Leader of Opposition in Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijendra Gupta. Last week, the Ministry of Home Affairs declared the Delhi government-constituted Commission of Inquiry to probe into the alleged CNG fitness scam legally invalid.
Bihar: Congress upset with Nitish's invitation to Kejriwal
The Congress is upset with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s move to rope in Arvind Kejriwal to campaign for the upcoming state assembly elections. The Congress, being the junior partner in the alliance, is in no position to ask Kumar to drop the idea of inviting Kejriwal. "The AAP government [in Deli] has not even fulfilled a single promise it made to the people," said AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmad.
Tamil Nadu: Government will build memorial for Shivaji Ganesan, says Jayalalithaa
Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced that the government would build a memorial for actor Sivaji Ganesan at a land opposite to Sathya Studios on the banks of the Adyar river. Making a suo motu statement in the assembly, she said the structure on the actor would be built on land, which belonged to the public works department. "There are requests from various quarters and political parties to the government to take up the work on its own. Hence, I am happy to announce that the government will build the structure in the same site," Jayalalithaa added.
