The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed Bharti’s anticipatory bail plea after he was accused of domestic violence by his wife, Lipika Mitra. The police visited his home and office earlier on Tuesday but said he could not be found.
Tamil Nadu: Jaya rejects demand for CBI probe
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday rejected the state opposition’s demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the death of Tiruchengode deputy superintendent of police, R Vishnupriya, and said that the state’s Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department would conduct an impartial probe. The DSP, who was investigating the murder of a Dalit youth, was found hanging in her home on Friday evening.
Bihar: Akhilesh Yadav promises Third Front
The Third Front led by the Samajwadi Party will form the next government in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Tuesday. “I am confident the six-party Third Front will form the next government,” Yadav said while launching the party’s campaign in Patna for the upcoming assembly elections. Six parties ‒ the Samajwadi Party, the Nationalist Congress Party, the Janadhikar Party, the Samras Samaj Party, the Nationalist Peoples Party and the Samajwadi Janata Party (Democratic) ‒ have floated the Third Front in the state.
Tamil Nadu: Centre convenes Cauvery panel meet
Raising Tamil Nadu’s hopes that it will get its due share of Cauvery water, the Union water resources ministry has convened a meeting of the Supreme Court-appointed supervisory committee on the Cauvery river water dispute on September 28. This has come in the wake of repeated pleas from Tamil Nadu to the Centre to prevail upon Karnataka to release more water from the river, which is crucial not only to save crops in three districts in the river delta, but also to supply drinking water to Chennai residents.
Madhya Pradesh: State allots land for nuclear project
The Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to allot 41 acres of land for the state's first nuclear power station, which will be set up in the tribal-dominated Mandla district. The 1,400 mega watt project is estimated to cost around Rs 16,550 crore. It will start functioning in 2021, a state government official said.
