New Delhi: Former AAP minister wants FIR against police
A Delhi court on September 30 will hear Aam Aadmi Party leader Somnath Bharti's plea asking for an FIR to be filed against the police officials who implicated him in a case involving the alleged molestation of women during his infamous midnight raid on Delhi's Khirki Extension last year. Bharti took it upon himself to confront women from Uganda and Nigeria who lived in the neighbourhood after locals accused them of running a drug and prostitution racket. The women later said they had been sexually assaulted during the raid.

Uttar Pradesh: Medha Patkar held along with associates
Social activist Medha Patkar and some of her associates were arrested in Allahabad on Saturday while they were headed to Kachri village, where farmers had held protests and clashed with police over the acquisition of their land by the Uttar Pradesh government for a power plant. Additional Superintendent of Police (trans-Yamuna) Ashutosh Mishra said a case was reigstered against Patkar and the others as they had not sought permission from the district administration to visit the “sensitive area”.

Odisha: Mild tremors felt in Dhenkanal district
An earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale was felt in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district early on Saturday. The tremor had its epicentre about 35 km north of Bhubaneshwar’s seismological observatory, the state’s meteorological centre said. No loss of life and property was reported.

Assam: CM Gogoi announces freebies ahead of 2016 polls
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday announced a Rs 862 crore benefit package that will go in effect before the state Assembly polls, slated for 2016. Approximately 76.41 lakh people across the state will from the decision, Gogoi said. They will include people whose homes have been damaged in the recent floods. Much of the amount will be spent on laptop computers for students, seeds to farmers, blankets to poor people and pensions to senior citizens. The schemes will also provide benefits to widows, orphans, unemployed youths and women, Gogoi added.

Bihar: Chief Election Commissioner to visit Patna today
Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi and election commissioners Achal Kumar Joti and OP Rawat will visit Patna on September 27 and 28 to review preparations for the Bihar Assembly Elections. The first phase of polling is scheduled for October 12. During their two-day visit to Patna, the team will have discussions with civil and police authorities and also meet representatives of political parties.
