Kicking off his younger son Tejaswi Yadav’s election campaign for the Raghopur assembly constituency in Vaishali district, Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday called for members of the Yadav caste, other backward castess and minorities to rally behind the secular alliance to prevent the Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance from coming to power in Bihar. Tejaswi Yadav is contesting his first election from his family's traditional seat, which was once held by his mother, former chief minister Rabri Devi.
Gujarat: CM attacks Patel leaders
Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel lashed out at leaders of the Patel quota agitation on Sunday, saying that they are only interested in promoting a negative agenda. “I don't wish to say anything about those who are not interested in any compromise and are interested purely in projecting their negative agenda in order to make headlines,” Patel told reporters. Her comments came after Patel quota agitation leader Hardik Patel rejected a Rs 1,000 crore package announced recently by the Gujarat government for economically backward students.
Assam: Gogoi asks Super 30 founder to start education initiative
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday praised Super 30 founder and mathematician Anand Kumar for his work tutoring children from underprivileged families for the Indian Institutes of Technology entrance exams, and urged him to start a similar initiative for the poor students in Assam. Gogoi had a detailed discussion with Kumar in Guwahati at his official residence. In 2010, all 30 students of Super 30 had made it to IITs. Kumar, however, had not accepted the money, saying it was against the principle of Super 30.
Manipur: Manipur governor Syed Ahmed dies
Manipur Governor Syed Ahmed died at a private hospital in Mumbai on Sunday morning. Ahmed was suffering from cancer and was admitted to a suburban Bandra hospital last week, his family they said. The 73-year-old was sworn in as the Governor of Manipur on May 16 this year. Ahmed was a former Congress leader from Maharashtra.
Kerala: Government's official website hacked
The Kerala government’s official website has been vandalised by “suspected Pakistan-based hackers”, said Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala. The state’s cyber cell police are investigating the incident, which occurred on Saturday night. The hackers posted an image of a burning tricolour on the website.
