COMEDY Cheer! at the NCPA
The fifth edition of the annual comedy festival will feature stand-up acts, plays and a live podcast. On Friday, watch Second Decoction, comedian Karthik Kumar’s stand-up set (Experimental Theatre at 7 pm). Tickets priced at Rs 200, Rs 300 and Rs 400 are being sold here. On Saturday, comedians Anuvab Pal and Kunaal Roy Kapur will perform a set titled Our Last Week, which will be broadcast by the podcast series Audiomatic (Experimental Theatre at 6 pm). FILM Nil Battey Sannata at the NCPA Little Theatre
In Ashwini Iyer Tripathi’s Hindi film (with English subtitles) starring Swara Bhaskar and Ratna Pathak Shah, Chanda, a housemaid, decides to get an education and enrols herself in her daughter Apu’s class in school. The screening is free.

MUSIC FRWD 0002 with Bombay Bassment + Bandish Projekt + Major C at AntiSocial
The second edition of music artist management and event company Mixtape’s new monthly electronica gig series at Khar music venue AntiSocial will be headlined by hip hop and reggae band Bombay Bassment. The group will launch their new album VIP, Func aka Randolph Correia’s remixed version of their self-titled 2014 debut which he produced. The show will also feature sets by city-based artists Major C aka Chandu Kunder, the group’s DJ, and Bandish Projekt aka Mayur Narvekar. The entry fee is Rs 300 per head. Newly formed Mumbai ska band, fronted by UK-born Italian-Guyanese keyboardist and vocalist Ramon Ibrahim, will play their debut gig in the city. MUSIC Sahasra Chandra Swara at Ravindra Natya Mandir
Four Hindustani classical music vocalists will perform at this two-day festival showcasing the compositions of veteran singer Prabha Atre. Ajay Pohankar and Venkatesh Kumar will sing on Saturday evening and Dhanashree Pandit-Rai and Anand Bhate on Sunday morning. Odissi dancer Jhelum Paranjape will also perform on Sunday. There is no entry fee; seating is on a first come, first served basis.

Artist Prashant Sarkar will conduct a class on painting with watercolours. The event is free. However attendees must pay to enter the museum. Shukla Sawant, associate professor of visual studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University’s School of Arts and Aesthetics, will deliver a lecture titled ‘“This is Modern Art”: Experiments in Outreach, Art Writing and Exhibition Making in Bombay (1950s–1960s)’ in which she will talk about how figures such as theatre practitioner and art collector Ebrahim Alkazi and artist Baburao Sadwelkar engaged the public in the field of visual art. BOOK LAUNCH The Structure: Works of Mahendra Raj at CSMVS
This book on the work of celebrated structural engineer Mahendra Raj will be launched at the event, which will have a panel discussion with VV Nori, the chairman of the architecture firm Shirish Patel Associates, architect Neelkanth Chhaya, V Suresh, the former chief managing director of the Housing and Urban Development Corporation and art curator Ranjit Hoskote. ART River with a Thousand Holes at Clark House Initiative
A group show featuring river-themed woodcuts and drawings by Sucheta Ghadge from Mumbai; ink and charcoal drawings of the Brahmaputra by Shernavaz Colah, who is also from the city; video and sculptural works showing the capital’s rural and built landscapes by Ranjeeta Kumari from Delhi; and lace-bordered serigraphs on the Greco-Turkish war that took place from 1919 to 1922 by Maria-Marika Koenig from Germany.

Delhi photographer Gauri Gill’s show The Mark on the Wall encompasses three bodies of work. ‘Fields of Sight’ is a set of images shot in an Adivasi village in Dahanu with drawings by rural artist Rajesh Vangad; ‘Places, Traces’ has photos from Notes from the Desert, Gill’s series of pictures of rural Rajasthan; and ‘The Mark on the Wall’ is a collection of photographs of drawings made by kids and teachers in government schools in Rajasthan.
