New Zealand beat Australia 34-17 to win Rugby World Cup 2015
The All Blacks became the first team to lift the Webb Ellis Cup three times.
New Zealand beat neighbours Australia 34-17 in the 2015 Rugby World Cup final in London on Saturday, becoming the first team in history to successfully retain their world title. The All Blacks started the game with pace and raced to an early 21-3 lead, before Australia fought back to close the gap to four points. With 15 minutes to go, a long-distance drop-goal and penalty from fly-half Dan Carter ensured New Zealand the win in what was a thrilling final. Carter, who had missed the 2011 World Cup final through injury, was adjudged Man of the Match.
The win also made the All Blacks the first team to win the Webb Ellis Cup three times, having clinched the title earlier in 1987 and 2011. Captain Richie McCaw told the BBC, "We said four years ago that we get on the road again with this being the end goal, try and do something no-one else has done. I'm so proud of the guys. We lost a bit of momentum in the second half but we kept our composure and came back strong."
