Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kailash Vijayvargiya branded actor Shah Rukh Khan a traitor for talking about intolerance in India. Vijayvargiya said that while Khan lives in India, his mind is in Pakistan. He added, “His films earn crores here, but he sees India as an intolerant nation.”

In a series of tweets, Vijayvargiya said, "India is on the verge of becoming a permanent member of the United Nations [Security Council], but everyone including Pakistan is conspiring to derail it. To brand India an intolerant nation is part of this conspiracy. Shah Rukh is now singing the same tune of intolerance along with Pakistan and other anti-India forces.”

He added, “When hundreds were killed in the 1993 Mumbai serials blasts, where was Shah Rukh Khan? When Mumbai was attacked on 26/11, where was Shah Rukh then?”

His remarks were condemned by Union minister Prakash Javadekar, who pointed out that Vijayvargiya was not a spokesperson and could not speak for the BJP.

On Monday, Khan had said that there was extreme intolerance in India. He also said that the country "will never be a superpower if we are not going to believe that all religions are equal".
