ISRO launches fifth navigational satellite from Sriharikota
It will be part of a system used for disaster management, vehicle tracking and fleet management, mapping, and even visual and voice navigation.
The Indian Space Research Organisation launched its first satellite this year on Wednesday morning. The satellite, the fifth among the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System or IRNSS-1E, was launched from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The satellite is part of a navigation system that will be used for disaster management, vehicle tracking, fleet management, and even mapping, and visual and voice navigation for drivers. NDTV reported that the satellite is also called the desi GPS.
Four previously launched satellites already provide around 18 hours of signal for India’s satellite navigation system, which will be on par with the United States’ Global Positioning System. The system comprises seven satellites in total, leaving three more to be launched.
