National award-winning Malayalam actor Kalpana Ranjani died on Monday, following a heart attack in Hyderabad, reported The Hindu. She was 51.

Kalpana had reached Hyderabad on Sunday afternoon for the shooting of a Tamil-Telugu film, and was staying at a hotel in the city, according to The News Minute. She was found unconscious in her hotel room and was taken to Apollo Hospital. The doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Kalpana made her debut in MT Vasudevan Nair's film Manj in 1983, and acted in around 300 films through her career. She was known for her comic roles in Malayalam films, as well as others in different South Indian languages. Her latest Malayalam film, Charlie, is still running in cinemas across Kerala.

In 2012, Kalpana had received the National Award for her performance in "Thanichalla Njan". Some of her popular films include Sathi Leelavathi (1995) and Kaliveedu (1996).
