'Visit My Mosque Day' in UK hopes to explain Islam 'beyond hostile headlines'
More than 90 mosques in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast participated in the event organised by Muslim Council of Britain.
More than 90 mosques across the United Kingdom on Sunday opened their doors to visitors of all faith in a bid to explain Islam "beyond the hostile headlines", reported BBC. The move comes after a rise in the number of attacks on Muslims reported in London. The "Visit My Mosque Day" event was organised by Muslim Council of Britain to promote unity in "a tense time for faith communities".
Hundreds of supporters of the group Patriotic Europeans against the Islamisation of the West staged a silent march in Birmingham on Saturday as clashes broke out at rallies in France and the Netherlands, reported The Guardian. There are approximately three million Muslims and around 1,750 mosques in the UK. Mosques in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast participated in the open day event.
