In a first, the Central Reserve Police Force of India is set to deploy more than 560 women commandos in Maoist-hit areas, reported PTI. The new batch of 567 women personnel who graduated from the force’s training centre in Rajasthan’s Ajmer last week will be sent to some of the most challenging combat locations in the country, confirmed CRPF director general K Durga Prasad.

"These women who passed out on May 6 from Ajmer have been trained keeping in mind the Left Wing Extremism tasks rendered by us. We thought to give them the toughest assignment in the initial years of their service itself. Initially, these women personnel will be deployed in one company at a time and after some time their deployment and work utility will be scaled up," he said.

The force has already made provisions like infrastructure and barracks for the women at some locations, and they are working on such facilities at other locations. The CRPF believes that the new induction will not only bring them more at par with the ultras who have women fighting on their side, but will also help them gather local intelligence as women personnel may be able to interact better with local women in the villages.
