Kings XI Punjab got off the bottom of the table with a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in Visakhapatnam on Friday. Punjab's bowlers made perfect use of a friendly surface to restrict Mumbai to 124/9, before chasing it down with three overs to spare. Punjab moved one spot up to seventh after recording only their fourth win of the tournament, while Mumbai maintained their fifth place in the table with six wins and as many losses.

Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first on a slow and grippy surface in Visakhapatnam that was bound to test the batsmen. Mumbai would have relied on the surface getting slower as the game progressed, but then went on to put in a miserable batting performance. Kieron Pollard was the top-scorer for Mumbai with 27 as the hosts crumbled to 124/9 in their 20 overs. For Punjab, medium pacer Marcus Stoinis was the star with the ball, taking 4/15. Sandeep Sharma (2/11) and Mohit Sharma (2/26) bowled well too.

Punjab skipper Murali Vijay led the way in the chase, carrying his bat (54 not out off 52 balls) as the visitors reached home in 17 overs after losing only three wickets. Wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha (56 off 40 balls) gave him company, after Hashim Amla was dismissed for a duck early on. Mitchell McClenaghan (2/24) picked up two wickets in the 16th over, but it was too late by then.
