Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy has reportedly written to the Centre seeking the immediate removal of Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan. In a letter dated Monday, Swamy asked that his appointment be terminated immediately or that his tenure, which ends in September, is not extended, reported NDTV. His letter to the Centre added that Rajan is “mentally not fully Indian” and that he has made a “deliberate attempt to wreck the Indian economy”.

Swamy in his letter said that the former Congress-led government at the Centre appointed Rajan, and that his measures have increased unemployment and squeezed small and medium businesses in the country. Earlier, he had said that the apex bank’s governor should be “sent back to Chicago." Rajan used to teach at the University of Chicago.
