IPL: Delhi Daredevils stay alive with thrilling six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad
Delhi's Karun Nair played a match-winning knock, scoring 83 off 59 balls.
Delhi Daredevils remained in the playoffs race after securing a thrilling six-wicket win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur on Friday. The Daredevils chased down 159 with six wickets in hand, winning off the last ball of the match.
David Warner once again played a lone hand for Sunrisers Hyderabad, as his 58-ball 73 took the team to 158/7. Delhi Daredevils plugged away at the other end and kept on taking wickets, with the second-highest score for Hyderabad being only 18. Carlos Brathwaite was the star performer for Delhiman in the Delhi, picking up 2/27, taking two good catches and effecting a run-out as well.
Delhi's start wasn't the greatest as they lost their highest run-getter this tournament, Quinton de Kock, in the second over for only two. Young guns Rishabh Pant and Karun Nair stitched together a recovery to keep them on course. Pant was dismissed for 32 but Nair carried on, taking the team closer to their target. Hyderabad were a little ragged in the field, dropping several chances but held on to the most important one, with Barinder Sran taking a blinder to dismiss Carlos Brathwaite for 10 just when he threatened to take the team home.
But with eleven runs to win in the last over, Hyderabad's Bhuvneshwar Kumar started off well, conceding just five runs in the first four deliveries. However, Karun Nair smashed the last two deliveries of the innings for two boundaries to give the Delhi Daredevils a thrilling victory. Nair finished with a match-winning unbeaten 83 off 59 balls.
