At least 12 people were injured after a low-intensity bomb exploded in a public bus in Haryana on Thursday. Officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs said the incident was a terror attack, NDTV reported. The explosion took place in Kurukshetra in a bus that was ferrying 40 people. “We are still verifying the nature of the bomb,” senior police officer Simardeep Singh said.

Experts from the National Investigation Agency inspected the site of the blast. Officials told NDTV it was too early to gauge which terror outfits might have been responsible for the attack.

Following the blast, the bus was isolated and searched by a bomb disposal unit near NH1. A 12-volt battery and some clothes were recovered from the bag in which the bomb was kept. Police said forensic experts have gathered evidence.

The Haryana government announced compensation of Rs 50,000 for the victims.
