The Uttarakhand government on Monday issued a weather alert in six districts after multiple cloudbursts wreaked havoc in the state Alerts were issued in Pithoragarh, Almora, Champawat, Udhamsignh Nagar and Nainital in the Kumaon region, while Pauri district in Garhwal will also get heavy rain, NDTV reported.

At least six people, including three women and two young boys, were killed after a series of cloudbursts hit Tehri, Uttarkashi and other districts on Saturday, reported The Times of India. Nearly 150 pilgrims from Karnataka were stranded in the hilly state due to the bad weather conditions, The Hindu said. The administration has planned to help the devotees, who were on a Char Dhaam Yatra, return to Delhi or Karnataka by Monday evening.

A group of 45 people from Bengaluru had also uploaded a video seeking help to return to their homes from Chamiyala village, Tehri district.

Scores of houses in more than half a dozen villages in the state’s Balganga valley have been damaged. The cloudbursts took place around 3 pm in Kothiara village, where some 50 residential houses were affected, and at least a hundred animals are feared buried alive under debris. The villages of Kemra and Siliara saw similar cloudbursts and were inundated. A motorbridge was washed away; two storeys of a hostel were caught under the rubble; a public school building was razed in a flash flood.
