Netflix Inc is set to come up with its first Indian original series. Based on Vikram Chandra's bestseller Sacred Games, the bilingual series will be created in partnership with production house Phantom Films.

The story of Sacred Games is about how the lives of a policeman, a criminal overlord, a Bollywood film star, beggars, cultists, spies, and terrorists get intertwined, with Mumbai playing a crucial role. To be shot across the country, this Hindi-English thriller series will be available to all Netflix members globally.

"We are delighted to partner with creative powerhouse Phantom Films to bring Vikram Chandra's epic novel to life, with the best Indian and global film talent available today. Sacred Games reinforces our commitment to bring the authenticity of local stories to Netflix members across 190 countries worldwide," said Erik Barmack, vice president of international original series at Netflix, which is the world's biggest internet television network with more than 81 million members.

Expressing his delight over the venture, Chandra said, "I'm confident that all the colour and vitality and music of the fictional world I've lived with for so long will come fully alive on the large-scale canvas provided by Netflix. I'm thrilled to be working with Netflix and Phantom Films."
